This weekend saw the second annual Charity Hack take place. Bringing together charities and developers to revolutionise the collection of donations, the event saw 18 teams come up with new and innovative ways of helping charities promote their causes and garner support.

Below is the full list of teams who presented at the end of the weekend, but if you want to take the shortcut and check out the winners in each category, here they are:

And here's the full run down on all of the teams that entered this weekend, which I'll update as I get sent more info / give a verdict about each one:

Team: edent

Description: "QR codes to donate money and ENGAGE with donators"

Website: http://shkspr.mobi/blog/?p=2541

Verdict: Great use of QR codes to give an added dimension to fundraising / campaign posters. Terence Eden's added layers of engagement through twitter, etc, really brought the app to life - if perhaps a little evil at times... Click the link above to view Terence's presentation and see what I mean. Could see this app being integrated by quite a few charities for their campaigns, especially if QR codes take off further.

Team: Volunteer Report Card

Description: "LinkedIn for volunteering"

Website: http://www.aboynejames.co.uk/volreportcard/

Verdict: This was the team I put together, where we were looking at creating a way for volunteers to record the activity they had completed for charities, link volunteer activity across the sector, and let charities find and verify volunteers they want to help on projects. I'm going write this up in a separate post, but I've got some good feedback from the weekend and would like to chat to Do It to see if we can integrate their upcoming APIs.

Team: Follow2Give

Description: "Follow2Give, a Twitter application, helps consumers find and follow businesses who make micro-donations to charities for each new follower received"

Website: TBC

Verdict: The idea is that Twitter users follow one business and one charity. For every extra follower that the business gets, they make a micro donation to that followers chosen charity. The thinking is that if marketing spend is already in place, it could also be used to raise money for charity. Unfortunately the front end (which looked great - nice job Trang!) wasn't connected to the back end (due to the developer having to go to cookery classes...) so we didn't get a working demo of the app. Will check it out if they finish off the site though.

Team: MoneyCounter

Description: "Mobile money counter and web based charitable donation"

Website: TBC

Verdict: Coming soon...

Team: givey.me

Description: "givey.me allows instant, tax efficient giving on any and all cloud based platforms starting from 50p"

Website: http://givey.me/

Verdict: Coming soon...

Team: Pitchinin

Description: "Pitchinin to get great digital media content and support a good cause"

Website: http://pitchinin.com/

Verdict:  Coming soon...

Team: aggreg8.me

Description: "A way for charity events to use track sponsorship and encourage competition between fundraisers"

Website: http://www.aggreg8.me/

Verdict:

Coming soon...

Team: RollCall

Description: "A tool for youth trip organisers to keep track of their charges"

Website: TBC

Verdict: Coming soon...

Team: Charity Shock

Description: "Ouch"

Website: http://www.charityshock.com/

Verdict: Truly shocking. I was told that no Tom Scotts were harmed in the making of this app. Judge for yourself by watching the video I took of the demo:

Team: Very Hard Choices

Description: "Can you survive when every way is the hard way?"

Website: http://veryhardchoices.com/

Verdict: Love the storytelling element of this site, which pulls you and your friend's profile pics from Facebook and you play through a story adventure about a particular social issue. The story demonstrated was that of a homeless person, but they have other scenarios planned. Although not a winner, the team did a fantastic job and it's well worth checking out and keeping an eye on. Read Kat Neville's in depth write up of the site over at Safety Goat.

Team: BigGive

Description: "Encouraging people to give to homeless people by using smartphone technology"

Website: TBC

Verdict: Coming soon...

Team: CharityBox

Description: "A Magical Box"

Website: http://charityboxapp.com/

Verdict: Coming soon...

Team: Bless The Web

Description: "Absolve your sins or those of others by making a donation to the charity of your choice"

Website: http://twitter.com/BlessTheWeb

Verdict:

Team: TrainWreck

Description: "Train+money=wreck!!! The more the money, the faster the wreck!!"

Website: TBC

Verdict: Coming soon...

Team: RunForrestRun

Description: "Same as before"

Website: TBC

Verdict: This app lets you track your position when running a marathon for charity. You get given a unique code, so if supporters see you running past they can enter your code, check who your are running for, then donate to that charity. You can also track the progress of runners supporting the same cause as you. They're already speaking to Cancer Research UK about turning the app into a reality, so expect to see this app available when you next run for charity.

Team: WeGive

Description: "WeGive uses your social connections and CSR programs to amplify your charitable donations"

Website: TBC

Verdict: Coming soon...

Team: MyCharity

Description: "Combining being nice to people with being on Twitter"

Website: TBC

Verdict: Coming soon...
